On luger mags, fxo in particular, the p08 mark is said to be up or down, I take it this means that the p either starts from the bottom of the mag and goes up or from the top and goes down, what significance is this? Does it matter as to date made or anything else? thanks

Daryl, the only significance is that it was a change in the marking. For fxo magazines the mark with the "8" closest to the magazine bottom was only used for the first months during the 41 byf production until about June 1941. The mark was then reversed with the "P" closest to the bottom. The reversed mark was then used for the remaining byf production about mid to late summer of 1942.
I only use it to help date Luger Production. |

Daryl, only if you have a 41 byf in the p, q, r or s block Luger and a fxo magazine the has the "8" closest to the bottom of the magazine OR t block or higher and a fxo magazine with the "P" closest to the bottom.
Of course, you know which you have!! |
