Why does my Luger jam very easely.

I just bought a very nice Luger 1937 mod.It looks just brand new to me,and previous owner told me the weapon has not been fired more than 250 times since WWII.

But when I fired 50 rounds,8 of them failed.Eighter by jam or not firing at all when pulling the trigger.

I noticed that weapon number and magazine number did not match.I fired luger ammo Seller & Belliot 9mm.

Do I have to change ammo brand or what is the problem?

8 out of fifty is not too bad considering the age of the weapon and its finicky nature in the first place. I got a shooter a few months back and had the same problem. I got a spring kit and replaced the springs in the gun. This along with the aftermarket magazine I got with the gun, helped out a great deal. I have two other authentic mags I tried, but it does not seem to like them as much. I suspect that the aftermarket magazine being newer has stronger springs as well. I may get a spring kit for my other mags and see if that makes them usable as well. I get my stuff from Wolff ( http://www.gunsprings.com ). A service kit for the Luger runs 10-16 dollars. As for ammo, I am not sure which works best. I used the S&W 115g and 125g. I don't believe alot of people have good results with the S&W in their Lugers. For me it seems to work fine, now that I've done the other work with the springs and such.

Knut,

If some of your new ammo didn't fire, it sounds like your gun needs a good cleaning. Old oil and dirt in the firing pin channel could be one of your problems. Lugers like to be clean to work properly. I suggest taking it apart and giving it a good solvent bath, then oil lightly and try some of the white box Winchester ammo from Wally World.

Hugh, that is good advice, though I am not sure, but I don't think they have Wal-mart in Norway!... (See the "Location" line under his registration info...)

regardless, the Winchester 115 Grain ammo that is sold in bulk boxes of 100 rounds should work fine in a clean and lubricated Luger...

Hi,

I've put about a 1,000 Rounds of Sellier and Bellot 124gr 9mm through my 1937 S/42. Together with a MecGar magazine this pistols functions like new (well, even better

).

I agree that the advice above is sound:
-Clean the gun thoroughly.
-If that doesn't help, try a fresh MecGar magazine.
-If that doesn't help, try a Wolff spring replacement set.

Stefan, I have a few new MecGar luger mags available @$25 each and new Wolff reduced power recoil springs @$10 and new added power mag springs @$10 + S&H. Tom Heller POB 398 St.Charles, MO. 63302.

O my gosh, you mean there is unexplored territory somewhere in the world for Wallmart yet to enter???? I Thought they were everywhere! Do you expect me to pay attention to every little detail at 10 PM????

You'd be surprised how liberal the idea of buying pistol ammo at the local supermarket is over here....

We even need a permit for having inert ammo....
