Went up in the boonies and shot Ruger Bisley Vaquaro's and Benelli M-1s.
Shooting a 8" diameter rock imbedded in the cut bank, at about 200 yds give or take 10 yds. We were using 300 gr LBT hard cast bullets in the Rugers. Winchester slugs in the Benellis. Both pistols and shotguns were very accurate at that range. The slugs actually surprised us. I wouldn't hesitate using a slug on a deer or Elk at that range. The darker brown spot in the center of the red block is the bullet grouping. ![]() ![]() I highly recommend it to blow off some stress.. Ron

Ron, that is a fine stress reliever--one of the best I know.
Have you ever tried any of the "Black Magic" Brenneke slugs? Those things sure look promising, but no one seems to have used them in my acquaintance. How do you like the Benelis? |

Hi Rod,
We did try the 'Black Magic' slugs. they weren't nearly as accurate as the old Winchester rifled slugs. They did give better penetration though. We love the Benellis. They will feed anything without a single jam. They can be fired as rapidly as you can pull the trigger. And still maintain a target picture. If the LA police had been armed with them loaded with the Brenneke slugs. The full auto shoot out would have been ended very rapidly. Even with heavy body armor, they couldn't have withstood 2 or 3 rapid body hits. As has been said, "It will not penetrate a ballistic vest. It will however suck the fabric through the otherside of your body." Ron

Hey, Ron, thanks for the report on the slugs. I sure liked the looks of them and may yet order some to try in my Stoeger Coachgun. The easier to get Winchester news is encouraging.
Guess I'll have to buy a Beneli now. |

Ron,
I recently bought a Remington 1100, a Ruger .357 SS police revolver w/2" barrel and a 1937 S-42 from a lady whose husband recently died. She wouldn't part with the Luger unless I also bought the other two guns. I was, and am, wondering how slugs would do in my Remington? We can't use rifles in the Southern half of the lower part of Michigan for deer hunting. But shooting accurately with slugs at 200 yards would do just fine in farm country, although I would hate to put a scope on that beautiful and near new shotgun. Big Norm |

Hi Tac,
I envy your misery. ![]() Although, I do undrstand the "****es" endured by the numerous gun restrictions imposed by your gov't. Hopfully ours won't get that far. How do you purchase black powder? Don't they have severe restrictions on it? Most cities here in Oregon have made the security ordinances so stringent that dealers either don't want the hassle, or can't get insurance. Springfield being one of the exceptions. We have customers that drive 200 miles just to buy 1 or 2 pounds of it at the shop where I work. We can only ship it in 25 pound lots. And it has to be marked and prepared in a very exact manner. Ron

Tac,
Let everyone know when you are coming to Oregon and maybe a group of us can get together again. I enjoyed your company the last time! The shop where Ron works is incredible! Steve Richards |

Tac, I think your meant "Smith" not Wood... Smith is in Orygun... Wood is in New Mexico near the border to El Paso.... I would get 'em confused too... but one is rich, and the other is like me

Tac, I do my shooting with fascinating weapons on a small ranch here in southern Cal. Should your travels bring you this far south don't hesitate to contact me for a day of recreation and sight seeing.
