OK...now that John Sabato has kindly referred me to this forum, I have a question concerning one of my Lugers. This is a 1909 undated first year marked on the front gripstrap: B.16.R.3.2 According to my research and available materials, the 16th Bavarian Regiment included Adolph Hitler during the period of the Great War. However, he served in the 16th Reserve Regiment, and this does not include the additional script "R" for reserve. There does not appear to be any references within the Imperial German numbering system for two regiments numbered 16; is this the same regiment? In other words, was there a 16th Regiment and a 16th Reserve Regiment? This is purely a historical question, I have no national socialist sympathy. Thanks for your assistance. BTW...this specimen is unmodified and has no later mods such as hold-open. All matching except mag.
Thanks George |

I also have a Luger with similar grip strap markings; B.16.R. The "R" is not script. These markings are on a 1916 DWM. There are no other numbers after the R., so it is apparently a regimental command staff weapon. |
