Default SWISS RUST FORMULA-Progress

Well, the test piece I finished today is starting to look like I want, to look like the SWISS LUGER I had through the shop a couple of months ago. One more subtle change and I will be ready to do them as production pieces. Rick Kimmels side plate was the test piece! Thor

All right! I am proud to have been able to provide the side plate in the name of science and progress! I am looking forward to seeing the results of your work! I also am very lucky in the fact that Dok has informed me that he has completed building the two cases (the very first two!) that I ordered from him. I have seen pictures and they are absolutely beautiful. I told Dok that when Ted finishes my rework (with the new Swiss bluing formula) I will have a Luger beautiful enough to place in one of his beautiful presentation cases! Ted, when you finish my DWM, I want you to know I will have a case beautiful enough to display your wonderful work in. I'm basically pleased as punch on this Daddy's day. Cheers to all!

Any guesses as to how many significant 'bluing/strawing' types there were with the Luger?

Guten tag Herr Gr¼n,

can you tell me what's the difference in color between the German and the Swiss rust bluing?

Nine! Nine! Nine! Das ist Verboten! Actually the FEW examples I have seen the SWISS bluing was darker, blacker than the DWM. Both have a slightly bluer tint than the standard Rust bluing I was doing before! Thor das ist all!

It was some I have seen in MNP by Kenyon and a 1906/24 That David Billingsley should to Ralph Shattuck that I got to view for a while, very very STRIKING bluing!

Thor, I have 1900, 06/24 and 1929, all original, Seems I remember different bluing. I'll compare all 3 in some good sunlight and get back to you. Jerry

Thanks, actually I would like to mimic the bluing I saw on Davids gun, it was awesome! I do have enough DWM examples to know what they look like! I am certainly not making a blank statement about all SWISS Lugers, just that I called a SWISS bluing formula because it looked much like David's gun. My INTENTION is NOT to copy all SWISS Luger bluing, just make one that looks like the gun David had. My experimenting is actually in it's infancy...so I have a long way to go! But I am learning fast! Default Ted...would it be difficult to do a piece of test steel

where half of it is your old rust blue and the other half is your swiss rust blue and then take one of your wonderful photos so that we all can see it?

I have already thought about this, it certainly is possible, but the pictures will be missleading. As you know almost any light changes the color! I am preparing to do a spare front toggle S/42 in my DWM mix! Let you know how it compares to my originals, actually I have trendy name for this one to go with my THOR motif! "Nordic Blue"
