Help Identify Walther Pistol

I have a Walther pistol I know nothing about other than it looks old and is missing both grips. On the right side of the slide it's marked "Selbstlace-Pistole Cal.7.65 Walthers-Patent" with WALTHER in a banner below it. On the right side of the slide it's marked "Carl Walther, WAFFENFABRIK Zelle St. Blasi". It has a five digit serial number on the right side behind the trigger that is 98***. The only other markings are "S" and "F" for the saftey lever. It sure looks like a lot earlier pistol than a P38 Any Ideas?

Michele, it sounds like a Walter "PP" DA pistol. Caliber is also known as .32 ACP. Quality pistol. This is a semi-educated guess, I would need to see it.

Are you sure it is a "Mauser" since it is marked "Walter"?

I meant to post Walther not Mauser, sorry. The only other noticeable thing about this auto is the slide is squared up to the last inch or so that covers the barrel and from there to the end of the barrel it is round. And it has a very small Crown type marking with what appears to be the letters LI behind it on the slide and receiver just behind the trigger on the left side. Does that help? Any source on the web of pictures I could look at?

It sounds like the Walther Model 4, of WW1 vintage.

Does it look like this one?:

Michele, I agree that it's probably a M4, but the marking are also consistent with the M3 Wather. An exact serial number would aid with the identification. I do have some original grips available for the M4. You might all check the hammer and/or safety lever, as that's what commonly breaks on these models. Tom

It looks like I have a second type Model 4 with no rear sight and six groves on the rear of the slide instead of 11. Thanks I'll check the hammer because it does not **** sometimes when the slide is pulled. The saftey does function fine.

I just did a complete disassembly and found it does have a broken hammer. So where can I get a replacement hammer? And does anyone have an idea of the value when repaired? The finish is only about 40% but the barrel lands and grooves are crisp and clean. It must ahve been carried alot but not fired much.
