Erfurt 1916 With Unit Markings
Hello, I have a Erfurt 1916 Luger with serial# 355. On the front grip strap is marked 173R 1 MGK 7. The person I bought it from said it was from the 173 regiment 1st Machine Gun Company and it is the 7th pistol. Does anybody know anything about this regiment and could share some info with me? Thanks.........

The seller gave you the correct details on the meaning of the unit marking. The 173 Regiment was part of the 34 Infantry Division, the 223 Infantry Division and the 115 Infantry Division during WW I. It battled on both the Eastern and Western Fronts during the war. A more detalied battle history can be found in the Book HISTORIES OF TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY-ONE DIVISIONS OF THE GERMAN ARMY WHICH PARTICIPATED IN THE WAR (1914-1918) Jan |
