I was looking at a .30 cal Luger that had no slide hold open. It only had a serial number on the front of the frame, no other digits on the usual parts. Is this normal or was the gun broken. I looked down into the receiver with the bolt back and could not see the hold open device. The magazine was in the gun and was empty at the time but the toggle would not stay back.

would need to know the serial number - if it was a early one, that would be true, for military in 9mm - everything depends on the model, year and it could be missing.
