In the first pic it looks like the commanding officer is watching the time. Probable late for a date.
In the second pic he is laughing it up with the guys telling dirty jokes. Probable got into the "flask"... Great pics! I don't see all that many P-38 pictures considering the amount of guns that were issued. |

Not being into uniforms, I can't tell what kind of unit these guys belong to. In Photo #1, the fellow to the far right appears to be sporting a polizei holster. If you notice, he is also carefully scrutinizing his watch for the time. Perhaps it is a police unit and he is concerned that the fellow firing is taking so much time showing off that they will miss their mid-morning doughnut break.

Roadkill,
I can't tell for sure, but the badge appears to be the "Close Combat" badge. The soldier is wearing the ribbon for the Iron Cross too. Thanks Orv for sharing these photos from Jim with us. It is not often that we get to see such great shots. I wonder myself what they are doing; target shooting? Please thank Jim for sending these to you, he is definetly a great guy and is always glad to share information. Marvin |

Your remarks were out of line, in poor taste, and totally uncalled for. It hasn't gone unnoticed that you hid behind an anonymous ID (that happend to be the initials of the Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership) to make your inflamatory post instead of being brave enough to post using your real identity...
Your humor is not appreciated nor wanted here. Please take a few moments to read the document entitled Forum Decorum in the General Information pages of this site where it states in part: "Forbidden Topics and/or Postings ... the Luger's production spanned over fifty years, approximately fifteen of which were under the Nazi regime. The Luger Forum does not condone the politics of Adolph Hitler or the Third Reich, and wish to go on record as condemning the acts of brutality and genocide carried out by the Nazis against their polictical enemies. However, it cannot be ignored that the Luger saw service during this period, and many variations can be attributed to this era. Discussion of those Lugers, the various production facilities, proofing departments, and indeed military units are all part of the fabulous history of this weapon. Discussion of Nazi Lugers, military units and their operations and practices, are all valid topics, provided always that the central theme is Lugers. Having said that, it must be stated that discussion of the topic of Nazism and its politics is STRICTLY FORBIDDEN. I will immediately erase any thread which presents this as its primary theme, even if only to condemn Nazism and all it stood for. In other words, an historical discussion about Lugers in the Nazi era, Nazi miltary (and even political) units and their use of the Luger is OK, discussion about the aims and objectives and politcal agendas of the Nazi Party and its value system or the atrocities committed by the Nazis is NOT. -The Webmaster" ...and if you can't abide by the rules there, then I know I can speak for the LugerForum owner, the Webmaster and the rest of the members here and request that you please stay off this forum. Continued poor behaviour and and will result in you being barred from participation on this site. -John Sabato |

The soldier shooting is wearing the ribbon for the Iron Cross 2nd class and the SA Sports badge. This badge replaced the DRL sports badge pre Nazi. It was given out in three classes for athletic ability. The bar above the left pocket is a campaign ribbon. It is hard to make out, but the big soldier has a smaller pistol either a PP or something a little larger. The officer looking through the binoculars probably has a PP or PPK. They all appear to be regular Heer (Army) hard to tell what branch as the color of the piping on the collars is what tells you if they are infantry etc...

From the book of Matthew 12,
============================= 34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. ============================= If people calmly stand by and let even a small amount of that kind of poison slip in here, it will grow like a cancer and ruin this forum... Thanks for standing by me like I knew you would... All of you! best regards, John Sabato |
