1918 Artillery marks and problem

I have a matching 1918 Artillery , with "9MM" stamped upside down above the proof marks. The 'font' looks German. No import marks anywhere, or non German proofs. Any idea why this was done? Also, gun will not fire unless I put slight pressure on the side plate while pulling the rigger. I cleaned out all the crud around the sear, but don't want to start bending stuff. What remedy is recommended? Thanks.
