Default Newbie needing value help

I have just received a 1937 S/42 which I know nothing about these guns except from what I read on this forum. All numbers showing are matching except for the magazine. All markings look to be true according with the charts on this forum. It has about 80% bluing finish on left side and about 90% on right side. Grips are in good shape with the worst worn spot caused from the snap inside the hoilster but still not that bad, just a little more visable spot. After looking on the net I find these anywhere from $800 to $3000 in close to same condition. This seems to be quite a wide range. What would be an average value for this gun? Is there something else I should be looking at on it that would make it less or more value? This has a 4 digit serial number. Is this just the number of gun made that year or is there any other meaning for that number? Is the higher the number less value? Thanks for any and all help.

There are a few variations in the 1937 range, so pictures would certainly help. Ball park figure would be $1200-$1500. Also you need to tear it down and check for internal numbers, bore cond, etc.

If you can post pictures, forum members will help you....on the frame in front of the trigger is the letter that goes with the number......that would help.

Condition, condition and originality drives the price.

A nice 1937 with a wrong breachblock will be low in value.

A import will be closer to $700 (or less) than one that is not imported.

Your value of condition and mine might be different; but you saying one side is 90% and the other 80% is a huge difference, I presume it has significant wear or damage to it, lowering the value.

Also; there are two variations of the 1937, those with strawing, those without.

further, an original holster would not have a snap that would rub on the gun, I imagine it is a post war holster.

The FAQ can help you in determining some of this.

I would gues the $3000 is very unrealisitic if in same condition as you describe. Best thing is to go to gunbroker and then look at like guns that SOLD and not just what the asking price is....

Value sounds like $900-$1200 to me...

After looking at the pictures, I'm revising down to $1000 tops. Ballpark, of course.
