Default Quick question

I ran across a guy who had a Luger he just bought at a gun shoot. It had a tool unmarked and looked like it could be a reproduction, the holster had no markings on it what so ever. No P08 or waffenamt or any ink marks. Nothing. He said he was told it was a police rig, the gun was a bad mismatch, it had a third Reich era bb. and receiver marked 1937 on top. Many parts had not serial NOs on the small parts. The take down spring was broken, and all numbers mismatched. Grip screws were wrong type and both mags are after market new productions. He thought he stole it at 700$. I tried to let him down easy in that IMO he gave all its money. I don't think he was ripped off but he did not buy it at a price where he will be able to sell it tomorrow for a profit. I personally would not have paid more then 500 for it. With out photos and from my description did I judge it fairly?

yes you did, unless.

IF the tool is real, thats $40-$50

IF the holster is real, it is worth $100-$300 {{Most repros have fake WW2 markings on it, we'd need pictures to tell you if repro, army or police.}}

The pistol should be worth $400-$600 depending on who wants a WW2 based luger

The holster looked like it had the right amout of age to it. But not one mark. The mags were obvious new after market with the black plastic bottom and target rings. Tool looked very new with out any markings. I would have to say it is new and many want only tools with marks on them from what I have seen. I do not know if there is some variant that is unmarked and can be told from new makes. Gun was not worth over 500 IMO total mismatch all over on small parts, only bbl and receiver matched, everything else either had no numbres or wrong numbers. If the holster can be traced to right era could be another countrys make so to me not worth much. Most people would rather put an extra few hundered with the 100 and get a nice marked original holster. I don't keep up with the luger movement for value, but I would much rather put a grand with the 700 and get a nice all matching luger with at least an original ww2 era mag. One thing I have found over the years is the better you buy the more people will pay later for quality.
