Default sending holsters overseas??

I know this sounds a bit off the subject of collecting. But how do you list a holster to be sent overseas on the customs form?? Has anyone any experience with this... Do you list as leather, pistol holster, antique holster??? etc. Anyone who has done this with no trouble, please share with me your method... I know with the customs service, sometimes less is more... Til...lat'r....GT

GT...I have sent holsters twice. Used the term "old leather satchel" with no problems...and the buyer overseas reported no evidence of my box and its packing tape being opened/reselaed.

I have also sent two Luger magazines to a couple of buyers (one in France and one in Holland). Used the term "old magazine" and placed the item in a book flat package which made the magazine look like it was the type for reading. But I did not lie by declaring the item to be an "old magazine"...both arrived safely.

When sending anything to an EU nation-they tend to be very pricey on import taxes-it is helpful to declare the item as "Used"...tends to reduce tax liabilities on the recipient.

I call it a "Used leather purse". Works every time.

I received a holster from the UK and the guy labeled it a "leather pouch". There was no problem with delivery.

I have sent holsters to Germany, South America (I don't remember the country, my apoligies), And France and always put "antique holster". When I worked with UPS Intenational Shipping, the catch was declared price rather than item (unless they think it is a gun part). That said, the amount before they hit the customs bar varies, but usually is around $25.00. If they think it should be worth more than the declared value, they are liable to open it, so I usually declare close to the value $75-$150.

Default Sending items...

Thanks Patrice, for the nice comments! I try pretty hard to take good care of forum members ... I used a bit of advice from all, (mostly by policeluger & Tom A )but finally settled on listing the holster, tool, and magazine as: Leather goods, tool, magazine / antique / used.... I put a moderate value on it and shipped it off... I'm alway a bit nervious as to the time it takes to get there... Priority mail was $20.00, probably took 10 days to get there, maybe a bit longer? I didn't keep track, but it's not in two or three days! Again, happy to hear of it's uneventful arrival! best to all, til....lat'r....GT
