Thr front of the frame is awfully nice compared to the picture above it that has some slight dings and such. Very smooth and pretty and then below, look at the trigger guard...
I would say it has been smoothed off, no reason to do so? Ed

If you do some photo manipulation you will find the barrel has a serial number. It also appears to have c/BUG proofs; the reciever proof lookl like a lazy c/N (but it is -really- hard to tell). I contacted the seller for some information a few days ago, haven't heard back yet.

Interesting piece! It has a long frame, "Germany" marked. I presume the chamber top is unmarked. It would seem to be an early 1906 frame, destined for the American market (AE) but never made it that way. One's thinking would lean towards a "lunch box" luger, how else would the serial numbers have been avoided. It does not appear that they have been ground off. I will watch for further photos or information.

By the way, $1025 is a good price for a 1906 such as this but how is the buyer going to get it registered without a serial number? I believe that only antiques made before 1898 could be sold sans serials.

I don't think serial numbers were requried in this country until much later than 1898. The problem is it's a BIG no-no to remove one. If it was a lunch box special, how would you ever prove that it never had a number? I don't think you could.

Many American made arms had no S/N even into the 50's, so registration (where you have to do so) shouldn't be a problem. One of the benefits of
Arizona living is the freedoms to own most firearms without government interference. Jack Hiles Mesa AZ

Dwight,
S/N would be listed as None in your Bound Book. Regards, Mike Jones |
