Default Bump On the Rear of the Frame??

On page 39 of Still's Third Reich book he states that the "Rear frame bump" was "reintroduced in about mid-1937." I checked backwards and forwards and it appears the bump was first introduced in the K series, dropped for the G series and the 1936 S/42, then reintoduced in mid-1937. I did not find it on any of the Lugers in his Imperial Lugers book.

Can anyone tell me why this bump was added in the 30s? Did it serve some critical function?

Thanks. Luke
