Harry Jones, says a "police (?) found only on DWM Lugers. The dates range from 1910 through 1921."

Hi,

That is a very old book. I have one with blank chamber and toggle with serial number "1". It is a police gun with a lot of Erfurt marked parts. I have alway heard this was a Simson rework mark.

Art, I've also owned a couple of these reworks and I alway assumed from the conventional wisdom, that they were done by Simson, but I'm not sure either. Simson's commerical marking was a stylized S in a triangle in a circle. Close but not really the same. I suspose a case could be made for these being amoung the very few marketed by the Weimar era Circle S convience stores.

Yes, and I am sure some of the info is out dated, as I said earlier! Another item in book is a 1917 Erfurt Artillery, but Still says there are none except the 1914 Variation from Erfurt! Is the one pictured a fake? Really, any opinions are appreciated! Thor

One of the Lugers has is ser no 69182 all match incl. alumnium base clip cut for mag. safety, stick eagle proof left bl. and "germany" along with 69182 and circle S on left receiver--now what police then imported to U.S.? It's dated 1912/1920. Other is 1914/1920 all match incl.alumnium base clip. has sear safety , mag safe slot has been filled grips cut for mag safe. Has no 925 above lanyard loop, clip is Hanel Schmeisser marked on lower back. Barrel is orig. and has the Bo 31. Both have orig. proofs and no other proofs except the one stick E. Both DWM and in Exc. cond. Any more thoughts?

Thor, I firmly believe that Erurt only made LPO8s in 1914, before DWM took away the rights. Since Erfurt was using up many of their notched receivers on standard 9x100mm PO8s in 1917 and all original LPO8 barrels are Erfurt proofed, it would be a simple matter to change and renumber a barrel. Does the die set used on the barrel match the rest of the pistol? If so, it was done by someone who knew what he was doing.

Tom,

I have a 1914 dated 4" Erfurt without the notched receiver. It has a n/s serial number.
