Luger Book Source...

As you will read from our advanced collectors many times on this Forum, luger dollars well-spent would go toward picking up some luger books related to an area of collecting interest.

I have bought many of my luger books from the following folks and have been pleased with their pricing and over-conservative rating of any used books. Many of their luger books are in brand new condition.

And their shipping is super fast and their books are packaged very well for protection.

Unfortunately, as most folks nowdays...they are out of stock of 4 out of 5 of the great books by Jan C. Still.

(As usual, I do not have any connection with this book outfit...just find they have a wide range of titles, have good availability, and sometimes are even cheaper that buying a book directly from the author.)

I was able to pick up a used edition of Kenyon's book for $30 on Amazon. The cover is worn but the pages are clean, which is what matters.

Just received a notification that I won a German auction of an interesting book.

It's called '50 jahre DWM' and was published in 1939 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the company.

Some 144 pages of text and some 70 with photograhps about production, testing, etc.. from company archives. I hope it will provide me with more insight in the history of Deutsche Waffen
und Munitionsfabriken.

Has anyone seen this book before? I hope it's good because it didn't come cheap

That sounds like a wonderful book. Are there any photographs of Luger production? Machinery? etc.? Please post any really interesting photographs regarding Lugers.

I have seen this book mentioned in Walters (I think), I was under the impression it was a limited edition, so GREAT find!

The book was offered for sale by a German collector, who published a book on Sauer guns, so the source is reliable.

There should be over 70 photos and illustrations, including pics of production, testing, the cafetaria, etc... and it includes a foreword by the chief of the heereswaffenambt.

One page, listing the photo sources has been ripped out otherwise it is complete. Not bad for a 1939 issue.

I can't wait to get it in my hands

You were right. John Walter indeed refers to it on page 45 of 'The Luger Story'. This book credits Georg Luger for improving the angle of the grip. What surprises me is that it doesn't appear in any bibliography, including Walters 'Luger' and 'The Luger Story'.

Perhaps it's mentioned in Gortz's books?

I picked up a copy of Kenyon's book-new- at a gun show for retail cost.
I just ordered 3rd Riech and Axis Pistols from Jan C. Still for $69 each. He will be republishing the other volumes in 4 to 6 mos.
