I am out of touch with Luger prices and was just offered a 1940 Rig for $1850. Its 100% all matching. The gun is 95% plus with the correct type mag's and tool. The holster is 95% or better and magazine's are the same. FXO E/37. Tool E/655. Black grips. Anyone want to give me a ballpark figure on the value. I don't think I can get hurt at this price but I not in tune with the current prices.
Thanks alot guys....Jerry

Jerry, most people ARE helpful on this forum. <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />
![]() Go to the gun sites, check prices there, Simpsons wil give you a good retail price. You could also do searches on this forum and check for prices and 1940, and see what you come up with. ![]() Ed

Hello Jerry,
The black grips are not original to the gun. In my opinion the price is to high for the rig. Just my opinion, not being able to see the pistol and examining it. Regards,

Thanks for the reply I did not mean to sound sarcastic. Was just looking for a quick opinion.
I used when in doubt, don't. I looked in Jan's book and according to him the black grips were right. Only 2% came that way. The FXO 37 should have been 122's. The rig was real minty not a reblue or dipped and all the small parts that should have had the Sn# did (last two #).

Jerry, it's a stiff price even given the condition of the pistol as described. Surprisingly, the holster may make it a reasonable price if it is good enough.
I agree with you, the grips are quite possibly correct. |

Black plastic grips are not correct on this model in my opinion. Possibly, brown plastic grips would be correct. Black plastic would be replacement grips in my opinion, and brown plastic would be a rather hard to find variation. Either, brown or black, were probably added later to the Luger. Majority of these should have wood grips. But, you can believe what you need to, to have a harder to find variation. -- Bill

Jerry, post clear focus photos of the rig and especially front and back closeups of both grips to get more information on authenticity...
...and for future reference, there isn't quite as much activity over a weekend on the forum as there is during the week... be patient and the friendly folks of this forum will provide all the help that is possible... Welcome to the Lugerforum.

Jerry $1800 bucks should buy a choice of rigs so don't think you missed the only boat. Patience is a virtue in the hunt for good Lugers. A lot of guys hesitate to jump in with a price opinion for what should be obvious reasons. If you can't see the rig, a person could be WAY off and who wants so post and look like an idiot later...And have the possible new owner mad at you. No good deed goes un punished.
Don't be too quick to get down on the Forum because you haven't done your homework and have a wad of money burning a hole in your pocket. Better luck next time! Jerry Burney
