Post Hello - I'm New & Questions

Hello folks! I'm new to this forum. For the last 2 days I've been lurking and reading posts. Cool stuff! Anyways, I'm gonna hit the Saxet Gunshow in Austin soon and am looking to buy my first Luger "shooter". Could someone tell me some of the things to look for thats Luger specific (rifling, etc)? Next question is, does anyone CCW a Luger? By the way, I'm 33, live near Austin, 3 kids, stay-at-home dad, work 1 day a week in Security and am a gunsmith-in-training. Thanks a bunch!

Welcome Steven;

There were many discussions about all the subjects you have asked about, mainly in this same discussion area.

Unsure what you mean by "luger specific"? Lugers were made prior to ww1, then ww1, then into the weimar era, and ww2 era, and finally from 1970 approx on for the newer guns.

Disadvatange to carrying concealed, size, cost, reliability... Lugers can be reliable, but to me a 1911 clone is more so, let alone many newer (but ugly guns ) like a glock...

Ed, I think what he means is are there any specific traits to a luger to be aware of. With 1911s its a slide that sounds like a washing machine, with Beretta 92s its the infamous cracked slide, with wheel guns its the lock up, with military bolt actions its the headspace, muzzel and throat erosion, ect. Steven, Lugers are not something to wander into a gunshow, pick one up off a table and expect it to shoot and get it for a reasonable price. If its a really good gun someone else would have already got it. You most likely will end up with a nonfunctional Luger in name only that will be a problem until you put it on a table at a gunshow and wonder why you ever looked at it anyway.
If you want a shooter then ask here, these are good folks with good reputations who will do right.
