John and others,

Well it's time to migrate south before the real cold sets in here in WV. Sorry we didn't get together this summer John. The weather at our place in FL really becomes great for Luger shooting in late Oct. We're finishing the last of our family visits this weekend and I have a space reserved in the flock of snowbirds (read that as RVs) heading south this time of the year. We're watching the big hurricane as all FL people do this time of the year and will delay our trip if it's heading too close to home. Almost time to load the hardware and computer in the car. We definitely will avoid KAL, NY and NJ unless we get WAY off course.

Well AGE, best of luck, drive careful.

I have a bit of news, after almost six months of unemployment, I accepted a postion as their national IT Security Director for a large hospital corp., based in Denver, so I will be moving there in the next month or so. This is better than the other job I was offered, in Iraq as a Data Manager, which would have been exciting, but I think the Denver job is much more promising for long term!

Sorry to horn in AGE, but thought you might be interested in Ed's life story,

Yes, we'll be watching the hurricane. On the way down we generally pass along the coast of SC, GA and FL so we may delay even if FL looks to be clear of the storm. We are heading to PA and points north this weekend.

Hope we can get together at a Ft. Myers show--there is one in Oct.

Thanks for the invite, but think we'll head straight home as we carry a lot of stuff and don't want it exposed to too many road hazards. Maybe we'll swing west if the storm washes away SC or GA, but this seems unlikely.

Maybe, if the storm washes away or covers the eastern US (like in Waterworld), you'll have a chance to buy some Colorado ocean front property cheap. Hope not, enjoy the job, especially the paychecks.

Welcome to Colorado.
You will love it here! This is the center of the known universe and everything else is merely a cheap imitation.
The first thing that you will need to do is to climb to the top of a 14'er, drop your pants, moon the rest of the world, and display the spot that you have marked to kiss.
Better hurry, though. I am being snowed upon, as we speak. The aspen trees will be in beautiful color within the next two weeks, and that will be a good way to start your site-seeing/tenure.

Ed, Wes is right. Not all that cold either. That's why I leave for AZ during the Winter.

Now when you take his sage advice about climbing a 14eener be sure you go by yourself because at high altitude you can get confused about dropping your pants, mooning and kissing. You want to be alone when the confusion sets in, know what I mean?

I live near Salida in the Southern central part of the State. Three hours from Denver. I leave here Oct 1st and come back May 1st. You will have six months to settle in before I get back....

Bring your boonie hat because the sun will appear, not like the Seattle area. Sometimes it rains here but not often.

Thanks guys, after sitting around the house for six months, well, I am glad to be going back to work!

I do look forward to starting and with this job, I will travel off and on throughout the US.

Laptops are the way to go if you travel and need internet access, but I am sure you know this.
Colorado offers unique weather. As Jerry says in his part of the state there is little rain. At my house (9250 ft elavation) it rains everyday of the summer, at approximately 1PM, with the exception of two days in July.
30 degrees temperature is 'shirt-sleeve' weather. It does not get cold until the mercury dips below zero. I never wear a coat. Do not even own one. (Wait, let me check the closet. I guess that I DO own a couple. Who would have thunk it!)
We feed a fox every evening and most mornings at our front door. Eats out of our hands. We have had 4 bears in our yard this summer. One bear killed our youngest daughter's llama in July. Raccoons on our deck evening before last. The herds of elk keep our lawn trimmed and fertilized.
Colorado is the SUV capitol of the world (for good reason). If you do not presently own a 4WD you must obtain (steal, borrow, purchase, salvage) one. All brands are good. This vehicle will be a good 'grocery-getter' and to supplement its usefulness you must get either a 1978-79 Jeep CJ5 or a Toyota F40 for the jeep trails in the mountains. And some heart pills.
If you happen to be a sissy, the bicycle craze is still very much alive in Colo. The rest of the US has cooled to this 'pasttime' but in this state the 'fellers' are still at it. Makes for less competition to be encountered if you are chasing the ladies.
If you do not presently flyfish, you must begin immediately before the streams and mountain lakes freeze over. Having missed that, you can use your time this winter tying flies and making yourself a topnotch rod. Having missed that, next spring you can fish from the bank using corn or marshmallows (not recommended for any 'HE-men').
Last weekend I was fishing at a couple of lakes above timberline and was pestered by a mountain goat who was curious of what type of bug I was. He came within 60 yards and would not go away for quite some time. I finally persuaded my wife to harass him with a camera.
We have lived here 17 years this November and will never leave. It is Paradise!

Sounds good, will try to go. We're sort of hanging loose watching to see if the hurricane gets between us and FL. Finished our visiting up north and packing up. Will probably leave here (WV) after the weekend.

I am so glad to hear of your new job. Colorado sounds pretty good. Your getting closer to Michigan. Maybe someday you'll stop in here and then you can see my Luger collection first hand over a couple of cold ones. You'll also get to see some real cool old cars made in D-e-e-etroit. Not that junk you saw in Kaliphoneyia. Try to make it in the second week in August (Labor Day weekend). That is when we have the Woodward Cruise. Two days of the neatest classic cars being driven up and down about three miles on a road thru Detroit and suburbs. Big crowds all the way.
