At the last Portland gun show I saw a 1908 Commercial which I haven't been able to get out of my mind. I expect to see it at the next show (next weekend), and I need some info and an opinion. It is all matching, has BUG proofs. It is not pure--it has a -very old- reblue, has had a holdopen added (doesn't have an inspector's mark on the frame, didn't know to check the holdopen itself), and it has had the serial number stamped military-style on the side plate in addition to the edge stamp. Grips and mag have escaped my mind, I recall that the grips were at least OK.
Can anyone tell me what might account for the holdopen and the military-style serial# stamp? I don't recall it having any police rework characteristics... It was on a dealer's table, on consignment from a large collection. Tag price was $750, which I presume is high. What might be a fair price for this Luger?...an advantageous price? I apprecate any light anyone can shed on the subject, and informed thoughts on a ballpark figure--I realize it can only be an approximation, and I won't hold anyone to anything. Thanks for any words of wisdom --Dwight |
