Mauser 1935/06 Portuguese "GNR"

I found a complete rig of a Mauser Portuguese; Holster (marked AE), combination oiler and cleaning rod and gun itself. This is not one of those flea market deals! I would rate this gun 85% at best (probably too generous). The holster is about the same, but complete. According to several books that I have read, only 564 were produced. Is it concidered rare? What is your guesstimate value for something like this?
Your help is appreciated. If I get it, I will post pics.

Hi,

The GNR is both rare and an extremely graceful gun with the long pencil barrel. They are available on the market periodically and run about $3300 in minty condition for a full rig. In 80%, I wouldn't pay more than $1800 or so for it.

Tony, same as you did here. You post the picture, copy ther url, then paste it in the quick reply.

Or do you mean, the pictures instead of the URL? Then you add it as an image, using the buttons or by typing [img] url [/img] with no spaces.

Could you be more specific? The only marking on the holster is "AE". Is it different because of the belt strap or is the shape of it incorrect???

I answered my questions. I check my books and I see what you menat. The M2 belt loop differs from the 1935 one. Is there a value/rarerity difference between the two?

Most definately...many more M2 were produced. Consequently the GNR rig commands more. Saw one at the MAX show two years ago...think the fellow wanted $400 for the full GNR rig with oiler and pin punch IIRC.

As Tom said, there were many more M2 than GNR holsters produced. However, the M2 is roughly 30 years older than the GNR, so really nice condition M2s are also pretty difficult to find. Given the two holsters in about the same 85-90%condition, I would guess that the GNR might run 1 1/2 to 2 times as expensive as the M2, but the M2 catches up quickly as the condition approaches mint.

Here are some pictures of two M2 holsters I have. The solid black holster with the tools came with the pistol. The other one I've had for many years, bought in anticipation of a future gun.

Thanks for the pics from Byron and Ron. Now, I noticed that Byron's Holsters appear to have different finish/leather and one of the holster's flap has a border. Are both from the same year/manufacturer?
By looking at the pictures of the GNR that I posted, How would you rate the finish of this gun (guesstimate)?

Tony, the two holsters are indeed constructed differently. The one with the trim has what appear to be layers of leather while the all-black holster is made of solid leather. Both are marked "AE"; the all-black one inside and the other one on the back. They are not dated so any guess as to dates would only be a WAG.

Glad to hear I am not crazy in buying a bunch of empty luger holsters...then waiting around for the "right" pistol to surface.

Would you mind calling my wife and telling her "this is done all the time"...?
