Pete,
Check out the thread a little further down on "Another blood pitting". The same Luger came up for discussion.

Amazing that he even considered trying to fire it, if the story is true...

I don't think the finger would have come off just pulling it with a string. He should have at least taken a picture of it in the jar. Knew a guy a long time ago who had a set of baby vice grips to assist in such "activities". 100' of string was an essential part of the combat engineer's demo kit, used it for removing firearms and other US and enemy equipment to insure no trip wires, grenades, ect were placed under or attatched to the item. What I can't imagine is a decomposed body part being kept in the tropics in a jar from Saipan to the US with no refridgeration. Might have taken months. Also the military really takes a poor view of that type of activity. How would you like for that to leak out under your pillow?

Roadkill,
Whats your opinion about a Japanese Soldier dying with an near empty magazine, a round in the chamber and the weapon is claimed to have been "Blood Rusted", Yet it appears to have been rusted with the safety "ON" ? These parts do not fit togather, IMO ! ViggoG |

The soldier was grossed out, so he used a string, I can understand that. He wasn't grossed out by keeping the finger though?

A variation of the, "from the still twitching fingers of an SS officer.." and/or "and this is no...."
It's just a rusty old gun that someone is trying to squeeze a couple more bucks out of. |
