Replacement grips??

The recent find [1938 s/42] has unnumbered and unproofed grips that certainly appear vintage. Curious whether replacement grips are a fact of war-time rework, post-war, or other. The other two I just snagged have matching grips... Comments please...TIA Bob

I have heard several conflicting statements on numbering of grips.

1. Look close, sometimes they are lightly stamped

2. Not every set of grips was stamped

3. That replacements were put on as needed. (I believe this is common for older, i.e. WW1 that were reworked, used for years, etc)

You have to wonder sometimes if the numbering on some grips are original or some after market original thinker. I have seen many different styles of numbers on grips. Sometimes I really have to wince to make out the numbers. And other times they are really aggressively stamped in there.
