Question Question on byf 42 date

Gentlemen,

I have a byf 42, with serial number 7363 b. This gun is pictured in the January 2002 centerfold. Can anyone give me the approximate date of manufacture?

Thanks in advance.

Jerome, if it is a byf 42 then an approx numbering could be determined, as 113K were made that year. Serial number range runs from 500 - 149m, so if you figure about 10K a month, you can see where yours falls.

What gun is pictured and where for the January 2002 Centerfold?

Dr. J., if you came up with early March 1942, I'll agree with you!!

Ed and Frank,

To see the pistol, click on Luger Forum Centerfolds to the left of this message. Then click on the January 2002 image.

The medals in the background were awarded to my late father-in-law, who served as an infantryman with the 157th Regiment, 45th Division in WWII. He told me he wanted to get a Luget but never did, so I got one in his memory.

According to my math and Ed's list, Lugers 500-9999 would have been manufactured in January 1942, 0001-9999 "a" would have been in February, and 0001-9999 "b" would be March.

However, somewhere I read that Mauser numbered guns according to its fiscal year, not calendar year. Has anyone else read that?

Thanks,

Jerry

Jerry, I couldn't see the last item on the left. If my "font" is the smallest is shows up, I literally thought that section was gone.
