Default Best method to sell luger pistols

This is David's son on his account. My father has passed away and left me with more luger's than I know what to do in this lifetime. What is the best method to selling a number of these pistols? I live in AZ currently however his items are in NE. Not really eager to offload these however the day will come where maintaining ownership on all these will be obviously insane for me. Just gathering ideas.

Hi, on behalf of David's many forum friends let me express our heartfelt sympathy on your loss. It's a great loss for us to. I'll let other forum members advise you on how best to dispose of your father's collection, but turning it over to a reputable auction gallery that specializes in collectible firearms would seem to be your most convenient solution.

I appreciate the good words and will miss him forever. I am leaning on other forums for help with that one though.

My heartfelt condolences for your loss. It is never easy losing a parent.

David was a very knowledgeable, active, and well-liked member on the forum. He will certainly be missed by everyone here as well.

Take your time in evaluating what to do with the Lugers. If they remind you of your father, they may be hard to get rid of easily due to the the sentimental attachment. First and foremost, focus on your family and yourself as you mourn and remember him. Wishing you well and sending my prayers for David and your family.

Default Sad to hear!

I am saddened at the news of your loss, and the loss to us all here on the forum, I can only echo the words already spoken on how well liked your father was. He was always good to me, and I shall miss him.
I noted in your post, you are in AZ? I also live here in Arizona, in Chandler, along with several other AZ members. If I can be of any help in any way, let me know, I will do whatever I can for you and your family... best, til....lat'r....GT

Condolence on your loss from all David's forum friends and myself. A great contributor, his reliable and accurate posts were always appreciated.

Depending on the number of firearms and how quickly you need to sell them, there are a number of choices.

The fastest way is to aggregate them, and ask a major auction house to appraise them, then auction them. They will take a large portion of the sales (both from you and as a buyer's premium to the buyer), but they will move them at market, and do it quickly.

If you have more time, you can consign them over time to well known Luger and other specialty dealers. Many will also buy them at effectively dealer cost, about 30 percent below retail.

You can sell them in individual ads on forums like this, and often at collector valuation. This is slower, and involves learning the actual value (often by paying someone to appraise them).

Local general market gun stores are probably the worse way to sell or consign them unless you know the owner well.

Hope that this helps.

I am so sorry, I did not know that David was ill! I will miss him !

There are many methods - but first look at what he has ( you are welcome to send me a listing and I can help with approx (wild) values) etc.

Plus and minus on auction houses - charge 15-20% and they may gt your amount or below it.

Gun shops, Legacy Collectibles or Simpsons, LTD - they could sell for you - lots of reputable firms out there.

You could sell on here or the lugerforum.com (usually receive less, unless rare items).

Default legacy

My condolences for your loss. I did not know your father personally but have seen many of his posting here.
You can take some comfort in the fact that he will live on through over 75 postings of all kinds of advice and opinion that will be his legacy for years to come.
Good luck with whatever decision you make regarding the pistols.
