Default What is this?

A friend of mine has this old Luger and neither one of us know enough about them to determine what model this is, what condition it's in and what it may be worth. Any help would be appreciated.

As Vlim stated, it is well used. Definitely the wrong magazine, but we don't know if the internals are matching. If all matches, maybe $1200. It has been used hard and shows lots of wear, but it is a WW2 gun and that seems to help.
You may wish to disassemble it further, but read the FAQ's before removing the left grip panel to avoid damaging it.

I would call it fair to good, and go with good if the bore is good and bright.

$1000-$1200 - which is not much more than a shooter - but this one you can shoot and not worry

Would it be worth it to get a period correct magazine? How much are they?

I do believe he said that when he cleaned it up all the parts had matching numbers.

If you are going to shoot it at all then buy an aftermarket Mec-Gar magazine. That wood base magazine would be good trading stock against a period correct magazine, but personally I'd not be paying "retail" prices on a mag. The money just won't come back to you.
Not sure which mag is correct for it, but figure $100 minimum. Yours should be worth that or more, and Mec-Gars, $30?

To me that's not really a collectible but seems genuine, it's still a nice pistol to shoot occasionally staying away from heavy loads.

These Mauser made Lugers make great shooters. If you check around, you may be able to find a Haenel Schmeisser milled steel magazine made after the war in Suhl under DDR control (Ernst Thalmann factory).
