Flare Gun Unit Marking
It has been a while since I posted here but figured the collective group can help me identify this unit marking on a police starburst K flare gun I picked up at the recent SOS.
It is marked M.G.D.9 I know it is a machine gun unit but what is the D? Dusseldorf? or something else? Thanks! Mark |

One of the collectors on another forum has given me the true meaning. It is a Prussian Police marking from a 1934/5 contract.
Mecklenberg Gendarmerie District 9 It is explained in a German Language book "Dienstwaffen der deutschen Polizei und Gendarmerie, 1919-1933" |

That sounds like 'signalman' from Still's forum on Gunboards. I think I read that he was breaking up his flare gun collection. It may have been he from whom you bought that flare gun.

I bought the gun from Howard (Signalman) when I saw him in Louisville. It is my understanding that there are very few of this variation out there.
