Side plate question

Does the numbering look right to you guys on this side plate , seems a little light stamped and the 4 does not match the frame ?

I would say the side plate is not original and numbered to match, in the wrong font as you noted.
It is also a different finish color.

The "3" on the side plate is also different from the "3" in the "934" just over the take down lever, and also from the "34" on the safety bar where it sticks up when the gun is in the "Gesichert" position.

Looks like a very nice gun....

Now that you mention it, to me it does.
The "3" (wrong font) before the bluing, and the "4" after the bluing.

Likely a new side plate. Rest of the gun looks very nice!

I agree with above, but keep in mind that sometimes you will find the 3 with one font/shape and a different one on a gun (but if memory serves me right, its usually the front frame serial number different)

AND, sideplates, being much thinner than many other parts will sometimes age differently

Is it a Mauser or a DWM? The answer to the question of originality can be answered by looking at the back of the plate.

So What if I have a black one with the same 2 numbers as my frame but the back looks scuffed and I don't see any numbers lol

Yeah I'm really confused also , the gun in question is a 1936 S42 m on frame . (OP here )

So what should the back of the trigger plate have for numbers?

You should find the number "9" or "10" stamped inside the trigger plate on your 1936 Mauser made Luger.

This gun was for sale and I was trying to determine if all was good with the gun. I see today it is no longer available .

Oh well it doesn't cost much to shop .
