Default What Are The Chances ....

What do you think the chances are that sometime during Donald Trump's presidency he will allow the re-importation of all or some of the weapons left over from WW11 such as the M1 Carbines etc. that as I understand it are still being held in warehouses in some other countries?

I'm sure he doesn't even know about them, and I don't think he would see them as a burning issue either, But chances are definitely better now than they were just a few days ago.

I believe that all of the CMP offerings of M1 Carbines and M1 Garand battle rifles will be limited in the future because all of the ones the US government loaned other governments have been brought back home.

That leaves only the rifles that the government transferred or sold to other governments. Of those, the most visible have been the ones sold to Korea.

This article summarizes some of the efforts to permit import of these rifles and carbines and some of the myriad of regulations that have them barred from re-entering the USA. :

10k a year can be released to the CMP - no one knows if it has happened yet

Not all the carbines and garands given to other gov'ts have been returned, that said, we are talking large amounts to Vietnam, Laos, Korea and if they come back, it'd be by buying - which the CMP did once for greek garands?

The program was called Foreign Military Assistance

I still remember years ago, in the "60's"? I purchased an M1 Carbine, still have it, and a .45 cal 1911 both govt. surplus for under $20.00 plus $5.00 to Railway Express for delivery. Man those were the good old days.
