Attic found III - Mauser C96 "Bolo" (my first)
Hello folks,
Here I am with the third gun that is part of a small collection with an interesting story. As I had said in other topics, I recently manage to get a batch of guns found in an attic of a former WWII Brazilian Army officer that lived in Rio de Janeiro. He passed away about 15 years ago and the guns laid forgotten until a couple of months ago. Although all of them were involved by an old thick and dried grease, the mechanisms were stuck and nothing moved. Each was affected in diferent levels, but most could be saved. All the guns stay 10 days in kerosene, just to remove all the grease and freed the mechanism. The stock was added for photographic purpose only. Here are the other two already presented: Walther PPK - http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=36244 FN Browning 1900 - http://forum.lugerforum.com/showthread.php?t=36248 This one may be not so thrilling, but it is my first ever Mauser C96 "Bolo". This gun was reblued in past (not so good job though) and its grips had rotten away. Also, it suffered with some pitting in the grip area, but it is completely in working order and it is all matching. I had to remove the bluing from the rear sights, slide, hammer and lock mechanism frame. I also restored the fire bluing on the extractor and rear sight slide and bought a new pair of wooden grips at CMR. The result was reasonable, considering that it fulfills a hole in my collection (this variation is oddly scarce down here) for what would be USD 350.00 (including the new grips). Again, this kind of work is very satisfying for me. Hope you enjoy it. Douglas |
