Shortly after the family learned of Frank's death, his commanding officer sent a letter explaining how he died. Frank had been hit by a grenade and injured, he wrote, but decided to keep fighting until he was shot and killed.

One of my soldiers still lays off a sandy trail in Quang Tri Province in northern I Corps Vietnam. I wonder if he will ever be found and returned.
