I received this this week and have been puzzling over it a bit.
The basic P08 is a 1913 DWM without the stock lug, number 1009a. It has the police mods of the sear safety and mag safety, though the mag safety is snipped-part is still present. It is all matching down to the right grip; and that is where the fun starts- the left grip was evidently replaced when the mag safety was removed, and has a tiny e/655 inspection on the inside but no number. The left grip is not cut for the mag safety. My reading and searching shows that this inspection was used by Mauser in 1937 for replacement grips. This could coincide with removal of the mag safety. Another possible Mauser relationship is the numbered rear toggle axle and the fluted firing pin. Finish is quite good, blue from when the piece was taken to police service and/or when the sear safety was added. No police markings I can see. Magazine has only the remnants of a "2" visible, I'll put it in post #2. Somewhere along the line the sear bar was cut back and the "09" re-stamped. If this P08 passed through Mauser post 1933, I suppose that could make it a very early 3rd Reich pistol I liked it due to the no lug frame, and it is a police modification pistol with no markings. Comments, corrections, ideas, or theories welcome! ![]() Click most of the pictures for a larger image. Last edited by DonVoigt; 08-11-2015 at 07:47 PM. |
