I didn't realize that there was any doubt as to their existance, but it is the "who, what, when, where, and why" that remains a mystery.
If I have missed the answer to this enigma, please do tell...

If anyone else has images of the TK stamp, please post--for my collection of pics of these markings.

David, unless you are writing a book about these TK stamps, I suggest you open your own thread with your request, and post the images you already have. I am sure it will be a sticky post in no time.

Pete Ebbink posted quite a few TK pics on Still's site not too long ago...The thread is still on the first page of whatever sub-forum it was on...

Here ya go -

http://luger.gunboards.com/showthrea...-receiver-EBAY

The pic in Datig's book is still the most realistic/authentic IMO...

They are a fantasy item, created by a European gun smith with a sense of humor, who saw it as a good way to add some mystique to some, otherwise ordinary, and at the time, cheap guns for export to the USA.

Opinions vary, of course, and everyone is entitled to his own. This story was researched by a couple of German journalists, who managed to trace and speak to the man who marked them many years ago while he was working as a gun smith's assistant. Unfortunately for us, the man's credentials were not reveiled and we only have his anonymous testimonial.

I can't think of any other subject matter that fires up Luger bugs like the Totenkopf...

Unfortunately, he is 'documented' as doing this in the '60's...Datig has photos of a Totenkopf Luger taken prior to 1955...

Most of the pics in Pete Ebbinks post are so cartoonish as to be ridiculous...But Datig's TK pic looks...Ominous...

Portent of things to come??? Or a reminder of the unpleasantness that was??? Only the dead know...

Datig was probably there when they made them. He must have had a good laugh also...

I've read EVERYTHING written on the TDH marked weapons. I THINK they are not real (the stamps), but I'd still like to have one. "Real" or not, still a hell of a conversation piece.
