Mattell THUNDER Burp Gun & Ruptured Duck

Recently helped a friend sort out a massive estate of Classic Car parts and household goods for an Old Boy now needing assisted care. I picked these up as they were the only things I could afford.

The cap gun is from the 50s, and was the subject of the first Mattell commercial that was aired on the Disney Network back then. Little Johnny machinegunning a herd of elephants stampeding surely would be the cause of many aneurisms today.

The license plate plaque and reflector are 40s era, and indicate that the owner is an Honorably Discharged Veteran from WW II for all to see.

I wanted to share these while I still have them, my wife wants to E-bay them soon.

I actually owned that burp gun toy as a child and burned hundreds of rolls of perforated caps in it... Wish I still had it

I'm amazed they took the "Safety Nazi" route that long ago with the red colored sections of the gun.

I had a Tommy gun that also shot rolled caps, but it looked exactly like a real one.

I had one also, but missing the wire stock and the barrel must have been shortened by someone...[coff, coff]...

Roland, just how permanent is the orange cap on an airsoft gun like yours? Is is just for show and can be pulled off, or is it part of the gun that you can't live without?

"Engine Black" paint available at most motorcycle stores takes care of those pesky orange tumors.

Dana may be better able to answer your question, but when I was importing that Borchardt replica the 'agent' in Japan told me it was a US federal law, that replicas had to have a red barrel/snout.

I noticed that eBay requires it on all toy/model/replica gun sales.

I posted whatever it was that took off the paint (without marring the plastic) in my Borchardt thread...

But at least one company [Marushin] ships their MP40 replicas with red plastic barrel ends (not painted) so I made one up out of black Delrin to replace it...

Paint a real gun bright orange and fool everyone until it is too late.

Sweet! I bought one of those at a gun show a few years back (who can resist a $20 MP40?

). I took it out of the box and walked around with it for a while, and it sure made people look.

I tried an eBay Search for 'mattell thunder burp' and got hits for the Thompson w/drum clone (of which I had one also) but not the M3 clone. My [Thompson] ThunderBurp had the compensator broke off and no stock (if they even had one). I have a pic of it somewhere here...I'll have to look...

But the M3 toy was the cool one. Actual tin like the real one. And it shot caps! (The [Thompson] ThunderBurp didn't shoot caps; it had a sound chamber and a wind-up mechanism that made shooting noises).

Edit: Found the pic! Lookit that cute little guy...8 yrs old...With his cap in one hand and toy in the other...I don't recall ever owning that kind of cap...No idea where it came from...
