I can't either Eric, his helmet cover has M G on it and not the unit. Everything looks new, it's the 1910 regulation field grey uniform, very new PO8 holster, displaying his MGSS badge...... sharp dressed machine gunner ...IMO.

Maybe someone with more knowledge can determine closer to what year this guy had the picture taken.

I notice a white portepee on his bayonet that is strapped to his entrenching too.

Last year I found a 169th Baden that matched both my artillery and stock. I love luger hunting!! Looks like 'MG' whatever that means!!

Me too, keeps us old farts busy. If ya have the time, between lady friends to search, one can find matching pieces or rather close to matching pieces.

I'm on my Third wife! First Polish, second a coal miners daughter from West Virginia and finally I scored with an Italian from Brooklyn! I'm hoping three times a charm!!

You're still in amateur status, I had five, I think...baby boomer memory problems. Soldier's curse from travelling the world, Italian, Czech, scots, german, irish etc etc etc. So many in between, philippina, dutch, French, welsh, French Vietnamese (there was a difference), Australian, Chinese, I'm sure I have left out some hemisphere but I'm old now and all these yankee American gals aren't making me any younger either.
