Default Cross hatched Luger

I just purchased a "Black Widow" PO8, byf 42. This gun has very fine vertical and horizontal lines engraved on the backstrap and the front of the grip which I call cross hatching. I have never seen this feature on a Luger before. Would this have been a factory enhancement? Has anyone seen this done on a Luger?

No this is not factory original... this is custom work for a previous owner. please post photos of the "enhancement."
