Magazines Differences

Today I finally took a look at my magazines and noticed differences in color and differences in Police and Kreighoffs to name a few. How long were they exclusively wooden. Are all interchangeable? I'm sure each holds its'own history and tale of its' own! Are theres ones that are more rare and valuable? Without a mag our lugers would be worthless in the field!! Eric~

The "yellowish" oxidized finish is probably cadium, used until 1916, then replaced by tin plating (tends to flake off) and then nickle around 1930 and finally blued by mid 1937. THis is for the standard military issue. There are Police nickled mags (Schmeisser type) used in the 1920s and forward. TH

Eric, for pre-WW2 see in Simson Lugers - look in your copy and there is a chapter on mags, it goes in to depth and was helped immensely by Dave M on colors and pictures of DWM, Erfurt and Simson magazines
