SN double stamp on black widow

I was checking out this "Black widow" on the enclosed web page

I noticed the serial number had what appeared to be a double stamp on the front of the trigger guard. Has anyone seen this before on lugers? Whats yalls thoughts on this?

I have been wanting a black widow luger for a minute now. How do I determine a real black widow from a fake?

Looking at another one of my lugers and noticed a double stamp on the imperial proofs. This is a 1916 - SN 8034j. The toogle doesnt match the gun, but all else matches.

Is this proper and done as a russian capture gun?

It's not uncommon to see double strikes caused by stamps that bounced when struck. A proof or number stamped over a previously stamped proof or number is a different story.

There are no 1916 dated Lugers reported in the 'j' block in Jan Still's Central Powers Pistols. Could you post pics of the suffix?

I assume this a "j". could be an "i".

I'd say its a"j" as a found this suffix chart in the military section.

Your double stamp is fine and was just factory workmanship error. Post pictures of the backside of the Black Widow grips!

It looks like a 'j' to me also. You don't see it often. The only reported use of the 'j' suffix is on 1917 Erfurts. DWM and Mauser didn't use the 'j' suffix.

interesting! Too bad I dont have the toggle that originally came on it. The gun came with a S/42 toggle. It shoots good though. I guess thats a plus.
