Default Luger drum magazine

I visited a gun show last weekend and was puzzled by the number of drum magazines for sale primarily by two dealers. Were these designed for a particular issue of Luger? Are there different variations? thank you

A large batch has been produced in Europe a few years ago. I guess they start to make their way into the USA by now.

A quick ID method is to add up the individual numbers of the serial number: If they add up to 17, it's more than likely to be a reproduction. Another giveaway is the splattered pattern of rust spots on most of them. Artificially created to age them.

Other than that, they are good reproductions (if bought at a repro price, at least).

Do they work well, and what are they selling for (once they are determined to be repops)?

I think you are correct. They did have rust splatters. Vendor said they had been checked and were functional. "They were found in a woman's basement in Germany" Ask was $950. I did not bite. There were 8-10 on one table, six on another. Thanks for the input.

I would not pay a cent over $300 for these repro drums.

Simple: To have a means that identifies them as reproductions

Hi Rich, I started a thread on this topic on Jan Still's forum a while ago. The number 17 is a mystery, but it seems to be a pretty reliable way to identify these Eastern European made fakes. Regards, Norm

The serial numbers font on the drum face are wide with flat bottoms too. Real ones have sharp pointed bottoms.
