Applied for C & R license...

Hi All,

I completed the application for the C&R license and the citizenship certification and mailed it yesterday.

The BATFE website says that it takes approximately 2-3 months for the processing.

Has anyone applied and gotten the license in less time?

Yes I have. About 3 weeks ago, I got mine back in about 4 weeks from the date I mailed it.

Not sure about the citizenship part, that could add some time to it.

It took about 3 weeks for me to receive my C&R FFL after I mailed it to them.

The process is not difficult.

You'll receive a good size package with a reference book, CD and information.

Be sure to notify your local sheriff or PD when you receive it.

Keep good, current accurate logs.

There is one danger. They are something like a license to spend money...

Yeah not bad at all. I sent them a copy of what I mailed off to the BATFE. You have to fill out two copies and send one to local sheriff or pd and the other to the BATFE.
I got the packet stuff about a week or two after I got my C&R

Got mine in about 3 1/2 weeks. Painless, except for the checkbook crying. I found a fairly inexpensive C&R logbook on line. It makes the record keeping easy.

I get as excited as a schoolgirl when the "Brown Truck O' Happiness" show up at the door.

I am surprised that you got a C & R without doing the Citzenship Cert; unless, I misread the instructions, that is a required document...I am sure that in the instructions it said that if you did not attest to US citizenship, the C & R application could not be processed and would be returned.

I could be mistaken though.

Anyway, I printed it out and signed it.

I misread what the other document was:

The BATFE site says:

In addition to the below documents, applications must be accompanied by a signed Certification of Compliance (ATF F 5330.20) for each additional Responsible Person (RP) on the license, if applicable.

The other document was not a citizenship document it was some kinda certification if there were multiple names on the C&R application.

My Bad...I include the other document even though the C&R application was for me only...oh, well, I hope it does not confuse them too much...

Yeah I had some struggles with it too, then I read over the middle page(I think it was) between the first copy and the copy you send to the local PD and each definition then it became clear to me. One thing is when and if you get one, make sure you sign the C&R cert before faxing it to anywhere you desire to make purchases, I noticed I had to sign and date it after I faxed it off....oops, lol

Let me ask you this about the C&R License, do you think it's worth having if you're not a collector and you think you may realistically use it for maybe 2 firearm purchases and a few parts here & there?

Having a C&R FFL is always a good thing, regarless of how often you use it. Brownells, for example, gives me dealer pricing on all items because I have an C&R FFL and a corporation on file with them.

The C&R really comes in handy for internet purchases of antiques like Lugers, Mausers, Mosin Nagants, Lee Enfields, Webleys, etc...

You save on the fee that you have to pay to a FFL dealer to handle the transaction local to you.

With a C&R, the seller can send the pistol, rifle, etc... directly to you.

And as alanint says, there are sometimes discounts with the seller for having one.

Since it is only $30.00, I'd get one...you reap that back on the first internet purchase in which you do not have to get an FFL dealer involved in the shipping.

Go for it!

Yeah even though my FFL only charges $10 for each gun and a $10 background, after purchasing 3 C&R firearms, right there, if I did one at a time, paid for my C&R and saved me $30 total for 3 background checks.

Yes as alanint says, you get dealer pricing at on anything at places like Sinclairs/Brownells and Midway as well.

Well,

I applied for the C & R on 8 May 2012.
My credit card was billed within 3 days.
It is now 5 June 2012 and I have heard nothing.

I know the party-line is that it can take 3 months for approval and receipt of the C & R; however, I have been reading on other sites where the applications were processed in about 3 weeks.

Where's mine?!?!

Don't these fine government employees understand that I have Lugers to buy!!!
This will stimulate the economy!!!

I heard of this license back in 2005 from a Mass relic dealer who was listing a Mauser pistol. State law defines a good-pistol-list and resident can buy with a state issued permit (LTC). Unfortunately, Mauser was not on the list (no old pistols on the list, but the list has SIG 239, etc. modern 'good' ones). One thing that I did not understand at that time -- Mass residents could not buy it, to whom you would sell this gun to?? And, he's kind. He briefly told me there is a C&R license that you could apply. So this license is not optional for C&R collectors in this state. Without C&R FFL, new owners must learn how to love SIG, Springfield 1911, etc. Fairly speaking, that pistol list is not very short, all modern production though.

There was some issues with my renewal, and I started E mailing the agency, which apparently forwarded them to the right party. Communication began and problem solved. So if you are not feeling the love, try contacting them via E mail, and you may be surprised.

I have a question about paperwork. One of the question asks if I have a valid hunting or license issued by the state in which I will conduct my c&r. I do not have a hunting license because I do not hunt. On the paperwork this is grounds for refusal for I can't legally own a firearm. This is not true. I live in the great state if IL, and I have a valid FOID, which allows me to legally own firearms. A friend of mine with an FFL, told me to put down my FOID number and that should work. I have found info online and they state that you do not need a hunting license to get a c&r. Any ideas?

Put down the FOID. They have no reason to ask for a hunting license in the first place.
