Default Another overpriced P08

not sure who is pricing these lugers but at 799.00 this one is WAY out of line. the pictures tell the whole story, not even sure this is a decent shooter.

I guess I'd like to see it once cleaned up and lubed. If the numbers match and the metal surface isn't belt sanded or horribly pitted, he may not be too far off on a top dollar retail level. There are a lot more guys that want a cheap shooter than can afford the really nice collectable pieces, so while I'd be relucatnt to pay it myself I'm not so sure it won't bring that money once a bit of lipstick is applied. And those late Mauasers were probably the soundest shooters.
Yes the bore looks a bit orange but don't write it off until it has had a few hundred rounds of metal jacket ammo. thru it. It will look much better then and it will probably shoot just fine.
Agree or disagree?

not in my book, matching numbers or not. I do a bit of gun repair for him and he hasa shooting tube, i took it to check the function on it and it failed to feed or chamber, so i took it no further,

the seller owner of the shop called me this morning and he has a buyer for it at 725.00, but needs me to clean it up and see if i can make it work. I gavr him a price of 75.00 plus ammo for test firing, but no way to tell if it was going to be a shooter till it was cleaned and inspected and test fired. Like i said i had tried to chamber a round in it before. he said he would get back to me, so their are buyers for rough over priced p08's.

The closer I look the more it looks like it is mismatched. If you get your hands on it again take a hard look at the numbers. Definitely a deal-breaker on a deal this marginal.

If you were to come across something like that in a relatives drawer and they asked you to sell it. Whats a fair price for something like that pistol? It seems everyone with any kind of firearm thinks thier gun is worth its weight in gold. You've probably seen the two I posted in the new luger forum, I paid 675 for my reblued DWM and 750 for my erfurt matching except the firing pin and mag. jim

On the other hand, if I wanted my first Luger and this was in the gun store case down the street the price might might not seem so bad. I think buying from the local gun dude is worth a bit of a premium-no shipping charges, no extra FFL transfer fees, being able to hold the gun while considering if I am interested, and of course the satisfying impulse buy. I have never seen a Luger for sale in store (California) or at a gun show (California) for less than $900.

For gold comparison, Luger is not as typical as FN 1905. It's so hard to find a 1905 parts donor. The asking price has almost nothing to do with condition, nice ones sell $300, fair ones start at $250. Just like gold, the value is not very relevant with its shape.... measured by weight?

I desperately need its spring. That's the sad part

$799 wouldn't be so bad if it would chamber/feed and the price would put it on par with an RGuns WWII Luger (which might not have as much finish). If this one worked I wouldn't mind paying $650-$750 for it easily simply because I don't see many Lugers in the wild around here. That means I have to go online and find one and have it shipped here, then pay taxes on it, and then the FFL transfer fees which would easily push something up to $800 or $900 depending on the base price.

The only Luger in the wild I've seen here in the Seattle area recently is a Swiss 06/29 with two mags and a holster and they want $2650 for that (before taxes). As of last week it was still in my local pistol range's display case in their consignment section. I do want it but I fear it's a bit too rich for my blood (as beautiful as it is).

Padredan, did you ever manage to get this one to chamber/feed or was it a lost cause?

he sold it as is, for 650.00 this week. I never worked on it. He found a cash buyer for it , and it went out the door for 650.00. I offered him 475.00 for it as is, so he lt it hang around a few months and did better, much better, he traded into it at 300.00 so he more than doubled on it.

It would have sold at original price in WNY...

Geographical. Not many 'gun shows' (or even gun shops) around here; FFL transfers & shipping can add $75+ to price; and Lugers just aren't vary common here...

...And don't get me started on those arrogant thieves/liars at Gander Mountain...

So many transferring dealers have "CBA Armory", "ZYX Guns", etc as business names. Nothing wrong, except shipping. Whenever shipper saw this type of names, it must be shipped "Next Day Priority". Cost is $80-$100.

Yep outrageous!
I am getting really sick of people overpricing everything. Everyone is so greedy with no remorse they are ripping off the honest person.

This goes for anything, looking at motorcycles for example, a 2005 Ninja 250, "retail" yes I said "retail", so a dealership that has overhead in a place and the bike, a warranty and legal backing when selling you the bike, in KBB for motorcycles is worth $1945 and private trade in is worth $1285, so put even a perfect one with low miles worth $1800 tops from a private seller....they want $2800 for it!!!!!!!!!! I asked does it come with two or something for that price??

I had a 1994 Volvo 240 DL, great condition, all maintainence done over the years(as I was a cert Volvo mechanic for years) put it on craigslist for $500, KBB said $2500 at the time it was worth. Sold it to some kid in 10 min, whos family owned a shop working on old volvos for $400 as his first car, and he wanted a Volvo so bad he actually hugged me. That felt good and was 110% the right thing to do. Why.... I had 3 cars already plus "it" made 4, why be some greedy jerk looking to rip someone off???

It really deeply saddens me to think I have a young son growing up in this world of greedy, selfish, spoiled, self-entitled people.

Back ten years ago, I saw some pretty jade pendants for sale on a flea market in Beijing. The seller asked ¥80 (roughly $10 at that time) for one pendant. My friend bargained for me,,,, after back and forth a few cycles, the seller agreed to sell at ¥50,,,,, for two pendants !! That's almost 70% off.

I was happy. But when I showed other friends my "trophy" that evening, a lady told me that she got three and paid only ¥30, from the same place.

====

Looks like economy won't improve any time soon, and deflation could come. Holding money is not a bad choice at this moment. C&R could be cheaper in future (speculation, if wrong, normal).
