Default Value range on a couple Lugers

Looked at some Lugers last night, bought a few as well...I'll post those later.

What is the value range (approximation) for an S/42 G date Luger? I should have written down the serial number but didn't. All matching w/ the mag being a "silver" fxo marked mag w/ unnumbered wooden baseplate. I'd say around 95% w/ the strawing turning silverish. Non reblue/Non import.

Second Pistol is a 1940 42 code pistol. Again all matching, but with a mismatched magazine being the only drawback. Probably 93 to 95%. Original bluing, nice strawing...wish I'd grabbed the serial number on that one too, but spaced it....again, non reblue/ non import.

Thanks for the help guys, I know it's only a guesstimation range w/o photos and a little more info... Chris...

Chris, it really is needed for photo's, because your 95% is some folks 85% (really)

And I did not think that they made 'silver' colored FXO's? Should be all blue?

G date could be $500 to $2400

1940/42 could be $500 to $1700

If as you say, more towards the top - non-matching magazines is pretty standard????

A 1940 luger should not have any strawing at all. Lugers switched to all hot salt blue in 1937 or 1938.

If it has strawed parts, it's a good bet it has been re-blued also......

Hi Chris,
Like Ed said, FXO mags should have a blued tube AND an aluminum or bakelite (plastic) bottom, not wood. FXO's aren't correct for G dates.

Default Lugers

Bad description on my part, I went back tonight and purchased one of the aforementioned Lugers. The 40/42 is correct, and nothing appears to be refinished or strawed. Still didn't have a camera w/ me to take photos unfortunately. I am starting a new thread for some feedback on my G Date Luger which I just acquired, appreciate the feedback.... Thanks, Chris..

Ed, I have a mag that is bright, not blued. It is marked fxo, eagle over 37?in two places, and P08. The body is extruded (no seams or double layers) The lips of the mag were formed, in part, by grinding. The unmarked bottom is black-or very close to it- plastic or bakelite., showing a seam/flash from its mold. The bottom is attached with a single pin through the center of its little dished grips. The ends of the pin appear to have been bored out slightly and the resulting rims swaged outward to hold it in place. The body has a fine, lengthwise grain, I presume from the extrusion process, and in the deeper artifacts of this it appears dark, in contrast to the bare steel overall. It does not appear to have very much, if any at all in the way of leftover blued finish, even tucked in next to the bottom.
So, Mr. Tinker, what gives, here? Is this simply a regular fxo mag from which someone has scrubbed the blued finish?

Thanks, Ed, for an answer that was short but sweet.
