Is it eqf? Karl Bocker, Lederwarenfabrik, Waldbrol/Rheinland.

Default Here's some information

I also have an epf holster dated 1941, and cannot find what maker it represents. However, it is listed in World of Lugers by Constanzo, but he says the maker is unknown.

Hello,

Here is the info I have on epf:

Interessengemeinschaft fuer Bergbau u. Huettenbetrieb AG, Betriebsgruppe Bismarkhuette, Huettenwerk Falvahuette in Schwientochlowitz, Kreis Kattowitz, later "Koenigs-u. Bismarkhuette A.G." ... sometimes mistakenly associated with "eqf". However this is not consistent with WaA280 that was attributed to cww Carl Weiss Braunschweig in 1942 and ce Sauer und Sohn Suhl 1942-1944.

Hi,

epf holsters are something like upside air mail stamps...the result of a screw up.

These holsters were SUPPOSED to be marked eqf, but on at least one set of dies, the diemaker reversed the q and it became a p.

They were made by Karl Bocker of Waldbrol.

Hope this helps.

Since I have a 1941 epf holster and the original post was about an epf 1942 holster, it is hard to believe that they continued to reverse the q for at least a year without correcting the dies.

Why a whole year? It's only one day from 1941 until 1942.

Were I in the manufacturing business and had all of my production capability maxed out and products sold, I wouldn't spend a pfennig to correct something like a Waffen Ampt code die, but then again I am profit oriented.

Default Here's what Bender Says

I stupidly forget to check my Military Holsters of World War II by Bender. He says epf was the code for Karl Bocker Lederwarenfabrik, Waldbrohl/Rheinland, no ands ifs or buts.

Same thing happened on the Designation for some Wartime softsided Radom Holsters manufactured by the Germanys. Somebody screwed the marking dies up.

There was a war going on, slave labor from who knows where, and holsters are definitely on the low end of the procurement process - expendable, ect., and the big rearmament was also in 42,(S42) could have been a mistake but knowing Germans the way I do it probably wasn't. They couldn't live with a mistake like that.

After spending over 10 years in Deutschland spread over 3 decades, and running a German corporation as Geshaftsfuerher und Prokurist,I can assure you that any German I have ever known would blow this sort of bureaucratic BS off and continue to go for das geld. The wonderful thing about German exactitude is they generally know when to apply it...to increase profit or to avoid serious downside penalties...to subscribe to the stereotypical characterization of Germans as perfectionis automotons makes about as much sense as believing all Japanese have bad eyes-W.W.II allied propaganda.

A misstamped die would be of no concern to a lederwarenfabrik; as evidence of how little concern die marking could be in wartime Germany, consider the well documented thousand or so Erfurt pistols stamped with the defective Crown on the toggle.

I rest my case.
