Default OK...I give up...Where are they..??

Good Morning Guys from the Sunny state of Tennessee....Ive been on the Forum for about a year now...and it seems that just about every other day...someone pops up with a photo of a Luger that they got at a Gun shop...show...etc....and what hurts is sometimes they say "got it for only $600.00"....so this morning I called the gun shops within a 30 mile radius......"no lugers."..no Luger''..however one shop said...."yes we just got one in...real good shape...$485.00...."...so I hop in the ole suburban...drive 20 miles....go in the shop...elbow two old ladies out of the way....asked the salesman about "the luger you have in stock"....he looks at me and says...."What luger.?"...so after I tell him the name of who I talked to....he goes in the back room...comes out...and says..."its in the case right behind you"..so I turn and look....dont see it and tell him so.....he grumpily goes to the case ...unlocks it...and as he pulls it out to show me...says..."HERE IT IS...!"..."It" was a West German P-1 P-38.................so.....someone tell me....where are they hiding..?????????...........Hans in Tennessee......

Unhappy Postscript to my last post.."where are they"

I forgot to add that when I was in the Gun Shop.....which is a Very Big one by the way.....Ammunition stacked everywhere.....so I asked the salesman about .30 Cal. Luger Ammunition.....he said they dont carry it...never had.......and in a year had only one request for it.....but it could be...."special ordered".......so tell me....am I in a "time warp" here in Tennessee about finding me a good "shooter luger".....or what..???......

All over

Lugers are found every now and then, but not very often at gunshops.

Average gun shows, you see few of them too, however, the larger and militaria shows, you'll see them.

You'll find them on this forum and other forums fairly often, less often for a 'steal' as the people selling know what they can get for them. Here I have seen 5 or 6 for less than $700, in 9mm and 7.65mm in the last 6 months; if you're going to shoot then buy a 9mm for a bit more.

I am fairly new to Lugers, but I, too, was in the same boat trying to find Lugers in the minus $1,000 price range. i bought my first one -- a mismatched WWI DWM --. from an on-line antique dealer for $1,295.00 . It was a bit of a disappointmen since the barrel bore was not as good as the dealer had advertised. I have been able to clean it up and have had the gun reblued and it looks and shoots pretty good. However, I later came across the hundreds of Lugers on sale at Simpson LTD and have bought my next five Lugers from them. They are not inexpensive, but you can rely on their descriptions and their integrity. Simpson LTD makes it easy and painless to deal with them, so I find the higher prices are well worth it I will continue to make Simpson my Luger headquarters. You might want to try them.

Hans,

I don't know where in TN you live, but I have seen some nice and relatively cheap (if $650-700 is cheap) shooter Lugers at the shows in Knoxville. Got a nice mismatch there not too long ago. Also found a 1944 cyq P38 in excellent condition for $500 in a local ad. It doesn't happen to me very often, but you can obviously get lucky sometimes. Just gotta have patience I guess.

Default Lugers Hiding.?

Hi..Thanks for your note....Im about 25 miles South of Nashville....in Murfreesboro......I went to our local gun show couple of weeks ago.....almost....bought a 1920 Commercial DWM but it was in .30 Caliber...Dealer came down to $700.00.......but after checking with the 4 different guys that had set up separately selling ammunition.....not a one of them carried .30 cal. Luger...most said they never had......"no call for it".....so after hearing that I passed on the deal.....I was in a gun shop about 30 miles from here yesterday....asked the same thing about the .30 cal. luger ammo....salesman said they had 4 boxes of it that had sat on shelf for over a year...finally a guy came in and bought all 4.....since then Ive found it can be had online seemingly with little trouble....Im just looking for a good "shooter".....guess I will keep checking local shows....and hopefully looking here on the forum for someone to post one for sale......I appreciate your response.....Regards..Hans Fischer

Hans.. you already have a shooter, it's time for a collector for you!, I just passed on a 42S matching but reblued for $700 LOL, only passed on it because it was a reblued.. it was hard to pass though but for a few hundred more I picked up an all matching, it's a 1915 DWM WWII bringback for $950, ... it's in DROS (California Waiting period) Will see if I can get pics up tomorrow

The good deals don't last long, I have made up wallet cards to give to the owners of several local shops and ask them to call whenever they get one in.

I get a call every so often, most are not high end stuff but every now and then you get a good deal.

I always at least go down and look.

They will buy those spar magazines from you, seems there is always someone looking for one. Pass a few their way and they will remember you when the time comes.

just a thought
