Default Simson & co Indentification help

Got thid luger from my Wife's Grandmother, I gather it,s a Simson
& co, but it's undated so I can't figure anything beyond that.
Any help from the experts would be appreciated

Oh, i believe that the magazine is a mis-match, the serial number on it is 8736, I forgot to take a picture of it.

Well, since I know a bit about Simson's, I can help a lot.

A couple of questions?

How is the stock lug marked (look up at the magazine well, the stock lug should be either marked eagle 6 eagle or eagle 33 eagle 33 or blank

any markings on the front grip strap?

Is the magazine marked with an eagle 6 at the top, bottom and spine?

Is the holster dated 1926?

Okay, you have an early Simson, they were made from 1925-1934, serial number 2031 is at my house and I believe it is from about 1927. So, yours would be in that time frame. The markings on the right side are acceptance and then final proof marking and are ones that I would expect.

Nice piece, thanks for posting the pic's.

I'm no expert, but interesting that the side plate has an eagle over 6 Waffen acceptance mark as does the toggle link. Was that normal practice for Simson's.

yes, they are acceptance marked more than Erfurts. Almost every small part is marked....

Even the grip screws are acceptance marked with an E/6 on a Simson.

You've got a nice original finish Simson that looks like it's probably all matching (except, as you mention, the magazine).

Please consider that breaking any part will considerably drop it's value, and that there were only about 11,000 Simson Lugers ever made. For that reason, I think it would be wise to clean and lubricate it with preserving gun oil, but don't consider firing it.

If you remove the grip panels, be careful not to chip the left grip near the safety lever. Many grips were broken that way.
