Custom Made Luger

An interesting commerical Luger being offered on GunBroker.com. It has a rare 22" barrel, but it also has a telescopic sight attached. Very good condition. I not into commericals, but this is something to see. Item 2865415. Ends today. Starting at $5,000.00, no bids to date.

The gun is one of the Frankenlugers that proliferated after World War I and were sold by companies such as Pacific Arms, Von Lendkerke and Detmold, Stoeger, et al.

I find them to be the esthetic equivalent of cattle dung but some folks like 'em.

Dear Tom - in that case you'll just 'lurve' the poor Naval P.08 I caught sight of in Berlin, of all places. A 'special edition, guaranteed one only' [thank God],it was matte-pearlised electroless nickel plated overall in three different shades and fitted with orange/pink coral grips with inlaid cavorting sea-horses. The fitted case was sharkskin ['natch], and it had two matching-coloured magazines, a take down tool and cleaning rod, both similarly finished. The dealer had the affrontery to call this thing a work of art, and was asking DM12500 for it in 1996. Underneath all the crap was a good gun trying to get out, and I just wonder if it was one of Liberace's favourites?

Hello Rick W. & Art,

I'll need to check out the book you reference. As an owner of a 1920 15.75 in bbl specimen (which by the way I like very much) I'm always interested in expanding my knowledge. Different strokes for different folks.

If I knew how to attach a photo of my "Biggin", I would. If there is a way to do it, without a static http address, please let me know. I'm using a dial-up connection until DSL is available in my area.

First... THANKS for the info. The "static" address reference is for those folks who have an independent, always internet-connected computer. Some internet companies provide these. It's really the numerical equivalent of the "www-type" address we all know and love.

Anyway, enough of the computer stuff. I'll try to upload an image of my long barrel baby following your advice. I must admit I haven't shot this pistol yet. I want to get it checked out by a competent and trustworthy gunsmith first. It looks great... and from what I can figure, consistent with the practices of the time.

Hello Rick W.,

It is a two position rear sight as you mention. Also it is a .30 cal.

From what I understand, the "long barrel" option was a customer order type of thing. You could get it, but there was not one usually in the display case.

Who knows... there were so many funky 1920s.

I have put together several long barrel Lugers in past 20 years including 16 inch. Have had good luck with functioning using standard off the shelf Winchester 115gr ammo. Some of the GunParts Co 16"bls have too deep chambers. Fun to shoot and legal with stock.
