First, I am sorry if this is not the correct forum for this question and will be happy to delete it and put it somewhere else if directed to do so.
At this point in time, I find myself with a financial need to liquidate a portion of my gun collection and two of my Lugers are "on the block" so to speak. What I would like to know is, if it would be appropriate when selling them, to request the price I paid for each Luger I bought from Ralph Shattuck, 10 years ago. Or, is there a better way to price these? Perhaps an auction site? As you can see, I am looking for some advice at this point on how to move these two Lugers, as all I want to do is get what I paid for them some 10 years ago. Thank you so much in advance for any help you can give me. Bart |

I'm told that prices in the last couple of years have softened with the recession.
That said, Lugers should be worth more now than 10 years ago. Post some pictures here, and you'll get some fair estimates (which can only be so accurate based upon photographs). The auction sites can be a good sanity check on values. The online retailers all have prices that are somewhat higher than market. Marc

Bart,
when looking at the "sold" prices in the auction sites like Greg Martin etc , add about 17 percent for the auctioneers fee to get a "real" price I think this forum is likely the best place to post excellent pictures and get opinions which to me seem to usually be fair evaluations and also market realistic I also think that you should be able to get higher price than 10 yrs ago also - take a look at Simpson Ltd Galesburg IL - may have your model offered - the prices shown may include a 15 percent consignment fee good luck with the sale Bill |

Bart -
No, I also do not think you should request a price that is equal to what you paid for them ten years ago. I agree that their value has gone up in ten years. As a suggestion, try going to one of the gun auction sites such as www.gunbroker.com and doing a search for the word "Luger" - this will give you lots of examples of various Lugers and what dollar amounts people are bidding on them, etc. If you decided to list them yourself on an auction site, you can always decide upon a "Reserve Price" which is known only to you. And then if the reserve is not met in the bidding, the gun is not considered sold. Hope it works out for you.

Don't sale yourself short!
Please take the time to post good pictures here for review, you will get an honest evaluation. Lots of collectors here who could be interested. Be smart, find out what we know first, then sale, its as simple as that. Vern |

Thanks, Marc, Bill, Ron, & Vern...I really, really appreciate your input and sound advice. I will take some photos and post them here. At that point, I would again appreciate any input on pricing based on the photos. Guys are the greatest!

Bart, I moved your posting to here "new collectors" area, as the for sale section is items, actually for sale.
Everything depends on what your guns are, yr, condition, etc Pictures will help a lot. Ed
