Welcome to the forum.
Many, many tens of thousands, in fact hundreds of thousands have 4 digits. so, tell us how it is marked, year on top, what is on toggle, proofs and acceptance on right, etc. And give us the entire serial number to include a suffix letter if there is one on the front of the frame. Ed

Sonofagun, is there a date stamped on the chamber top? Does the 8727 have a letter stamped under it on the front of the frame? Are there markings on the right side of the receiver?

Since SOG doesn.t know if he has a military PO8 or a commerical or contract luger, perhaps the only way to help, would be if he can post a series of photos. Otherwise, we're just guessing. TH
