byf 41 grips

Are these the proper grips for a 1941 byf. I guess I'm asking for the forums opinion on there originality. If they are not original can anyone post a real set to show what they should look like?

They look good to me....Try the "the hot pin test".Heat a pin ,and if the pin does not melt a hole in the grip it is bakelite. Or the "Carmen Miranda test". Hit the grips together and if they are original, they will make a sharp clack sound.

Buy a couple of grips equalize yours and in one of them (I believe that the left side) has a number "0" in small.
The photographies meet original ... though I am not too many esperto

This is my first Luger and I was really surprised to see that the grips were no marked with the same detail as a P-38

The photographs have poor lighting and inadequate contrast to be sure, but of what I can see, I'm sorry, but I could NOT say that these are genuine German made byf41 grips. they look like reproductions to me. I would need much better photographs. The first three photos don't even look like the same set of grips as the last two, and I have have pretty decent graphics on my machine.

They are the right color and style, but the border appears to be too wide, and the backs look too poor quality. The molds used on genuine grips were FIRST CLASS and didn't leave bubbles or rough areas on any REAL grips I have seen, and I have seen a few in my lifetime.

took some other pictures today.As you can see I am not much of a photographer. The grips have a lot of "gunk" on the back and I do not want to take a chance ruining them with a cleaner.

They look like reproductions grips to me. There are many ways of testing to see if they are correct.

Heat a pot of water on the stove. Put one grip in the water for a minuets of so. Remove the grip and try to bend it. If there is any movement in the grip, it is plastic and reproduction.

Original grips are made from a Thermal Set plastic (Bakelite and or Phenolic) and once the material is set, it’s set and will not soften with heat!

Now that the photographs are much higher quality, I have to agree with George, my suspicions are confirmed and these are reproduction grips and are worth $30 or likely less.

I have never seen the "bubbling" or rough surface, or puddling at the edges seen on these grips on a genuine pair. They are the result of either inferior material or injection molding at the wrong temperature... If they have been sold to you as originals, get your money back.
